Are Cats the Sleep Olympians?

A tongue-in-cheek appraisal of cats and their need to sleep.

Cats seem to have been genetically modified, long before time began.

They sleep with Olympic records in mind, while having developed a Pentathlon ability to meet the challenge of any sleeping accommodation.

Their need to achieve maximum sleep accomplishment is greatly enhanced by the occasional "transonic movement", a sleep standing procedure that involves the cat to rotate on the spot several times before returning to a static sleep mode once again.

It has to be said, the cat has an ability to memorise all such sleeping accommodation with high IQ results, able to home in on secret retreats

That no one would have thought of. Sometimes venturing on the edge of feats of extreme danger.

What is it that drives a cat to endanger its life for a sleep?

Why would a cat display this care not macho attitude?

Perhaps the cat has had to adapt to this high-tech life that has invaded its territory. Its normal abodes have long disappeared, gardens have become more sophisticated and less friendly; sheds are seldom unlocked due to the crimes committed in some areas. Cardboard boxes were often left in a storage room creating a most suitable retreat, now cardboard boxes are quickly discarded to the recycle bin. So the cat has had to place its own life on the edge to achieve a good sleep record, look at the evidence of the dangers cats face.

Do not berate the cat for trying, it us the human beings that are applying great stress to the cats daily life cycle. Without sleep that cat will display traits that few will understand, like falling over on the spot, desperate to shut its eyes.

Be ashamed you humans who stressing your cats out, one day they may leave home.

I am a cat
That needs this and that
Albeit
A good amount of sleep.
So allow me a place
Where i can rest
And not suffer
With no-sleep stress.
