Chickens Teased on Accident

I teased some chickens when I was child by accident. A rooster jumped on me and put a stop to it.

My parents used to have a chickens, ducks, and a goose. When I was a toddler, my parents allowed me to feed the chickens, they told me to wait until they are out of the way to feed them. When I would approach the pen, they would all run up to me, putting them in the way. My idea was to run to the other side trying to throw the feed in before they arrived. These chickens out ran me every time, so I kept running back and forth from side to side. I am not sure how many times I switched, but one rooster jumped out on my shoulders.

This rooster was a danger to my health at this point, and the only thing I was able to do was stand still. It's a scary position to have a rooster standing on you. My parents where right there telling me not to move and my father had to move up slowly to get hold of the rooster. He was able to grab hold of him, and throw him back in the pen before he scratched me up.

I do not know what the phrase, "Don't tease the chickens" means, but I know roosters will get angry and attack you. It must have been the bag of food in my hand, and how many times he switched sides to get it. My short height might have had something to do with what happened. That rooster might not have jumped on my dad or mom.

I thank God that the rooster did not hurt me when it grabbed me, and I thank God that my father was near at the time. Often my dad would take long trips running cargo with his truck, and he was home that week. It was also a wonderful thing to fear. If I had not became afraid, I would not have stood still like did.

I learned the solution to feeding those chickens. Even though they are in the way you just throw the feed in. You can control where the chickens stand by throwing the feed in the correct places. The idea was not to throw the feed on top of the chickens.

If another rooster jumped on me I do not know what I would do. I am no longer a child, and I think I would be moved to grab his head. I would want someone to be near, so they can get the rooster for me. A rooster can hurt you with their spurs. I pray to God and Jesus I will not have another rooster stand on me.
