I got this puppy on Halloween Day in 1992. He was the cutest pup in the litter. His momma was a cocker spaniel and his daddy was a German Shepard. Dakota was his name. Dakota became good friends with the family. The family didn't know how special and entertaining Dakota would become in time.
When July rolled around and the kids began to shoot off firecrackers Dakota would go crazy barking and wanting off his chain. I thought he was affraid of the fireworks so I would put him in the house. Well that isn't what he wanted at all. Dakota shot out the house door as soon as he seen the opportunity to slide by one of us coming and going from the house. At the time he made it out the door one of the family mem ers had just lit off a long string of fireworks and that dog went straight to the string. Dakota picked them up with his mouth and slung them around sending firecrackers every where.
It became a daily ritual to let Dakota off the chain and lite him some firecrackers so he could have fun to. That dogs mouth would be black from the smoke. It didn't matter how long you shot them off he would hang right in there with you. If you would delay in shooting them he would just sit in front of you looking at you as to say come on I'm waiting or would you hurry up now. I do not know how Dakota ever kept from burning his mouth but we always checked and there wouldn't be any burns.
We had a lot of fun through the years with Dakota. It was a sad day when he left us cause of old age but I bet he is playing with fireworks in doggy heaven.
