Our world is filled with creative and delicious foods, but did you know that some were made by accident?
Popsicle
In 1905, an 11-year-old by the name of Frank Epperson accidentally invented popsicles. One day, he decided to make soda pop by mixing powdered soda and water. He left it outside overnight, leaving the mixing stick in it, and by morning, it was frozen solid with the mixing stick standing upright. The frozen soda pop tasted delicious. Frand sold these, calling them Epperson icicles, but later became known as Popsicles.

Chocolate Chip Cookies
In 1930, Ruth Wakefield made a delicious discovery. While she was baking chocolate cookies at the Toll House Inn restaurant in Whitman, Massachusetts, she ran out of baking chocolate. She broke a bar of semi-sweet chocolate into small pieces and mixed them into the dough, thinking they would melt. After taking the cookies out of the oven, Ruth discovered that the chocolate chips in the cookies hadn't melted, but instead, were scattered throughout the cookie!

Potato Chips
Everyone loves potato chips. But do you know how they were invented? In 1953, a customer at Moon Lake Lodge in Saratoga Springs, New York complained that his French fries were too thick. The chef then sliced the potatoes paper thin and deep friend them. These potato chips were a huge hit, but they didn't become popular until Herman Lay began to sell them nationally in the 1920s.

Ice-Cream Cones
In 1904, during the World's Fair in St. Louis, an ice-cream vendor ran out of dishes. A nearby pastry salesman by the name of Ernest Hamwi, helped out. He rolled pastry into a cone so the ice cream could fit inside. What a cool invention!
