People go on about calories but most don't know what a calorie actually is, well it's the amount of energy required to heat 1gram (1ml) of water from 21.5deg c to 22.5deg c.
The law of thermodynamics dictates that if we drink 200ml of water at the temperature of 0 deg c-(just for the sake of my argument) we will need 200 calories to heat the water by 1 deg c.
For a precise balance of corporal temperature we need approximately 7400 calories to heat 220grams of cold water to normal body temperature (200ml x 77deg c)
To keep this body temperature our body uses the source of energy available in our system-i.e. body fat. In fact, our body needs to consume this fat to keep the right body temperature in accordance with the law of thermodynamics.
If someone drinks a pint of beer (or Strongbow) at the temp of 0 deg c this person should use roughly 18500 calories (500ml x 37c), however deduct the calories per pint approx 800.
For all these reasons we can conclude that a person who drinks a very cold pint daily may lose 17700 calories, clearly the colder the drink the better to burn calories.
So who will join me on the cold pint diet? Losing weight is simple all you need to do is drink lots of cold pints and let the law of thermodynamics take care of the rest. So if you want a long healthy life pleas visit your nearest pub now.
Who is up for testing out my new theory next Saturday night?
