Ramon was a poor man with a large family. One morning, cold and hunger made him wake up early. He decided to go shooting in a wood near his home.
The wood belonged to Don Felipe, a rich gentleman, and Ramon had no right to go there. But there were families of rabbits in the wood, and Ramon determined to take the risk. Suddenly he saw the owner, with a group of friends, coming towards him through the wood. There was a look of anger on Don Felipe's face as he caught sight of the gun in Ramon's hands. Ramon's heart sank with fear, but he saw there was no hope of escape. So he walked boldly towards the company and said to Don Felipe, “Good morning, sir. What has brought you out so early this morning?”
Don Felipe was rather surprised but he said, “My friends and I are taking a little exercise to get an appetite for our breakfast.” Then, looking at Ramon with suspicion, he said, “But why are you out so early in the morning?”
“Well, Sir”, said Ramon, “I just came out to get a breakfast for my appetite.”
The whole crowd burst into laughter at Ramon's ready wit, and with a smile Don Felipe walked on, leaving Ramon to try his luck with the rabbits.
