He walked in the front door tired from a busy day at the office. A home cooked meal and an evening watching the local sports team on TV was all he planned. It was a fitting end to the hours long meetings he was required to sit through for most of the day.
He wondered to himself what he and his wife would decide for tonight's meal. Or perhaps she had already made a choice knowing they had similar tastes and interests for a lazy Tuesday evening.
After placing his workbag in the study and loosening his conservative blue tie from his neck, he walked into the kitchen where his wife was comfortably seated. She sprang up with that purposeful look in her eye.
“Hi, Honey,” she said with a sparkle in her eye and a joyful smile. “I'm so glad you're home. We need to run to Wal-Mart for a few things.”
“Sure. What do we need?”
“Just some laundry detergent and cat food.”
Figuring the cost of money and time in his head for such a simple task, he casually nodded and turned around to head back out of the house. Wal-Mart was only a short five minute drive. In and out with just a few things, then back home to grab a bite and watch the game was not all that troubling.
A few hours later, after all the Wal-Mart bags were emptied and placed in the bottom kitchen cabinet, he wondered to himself how just a few things left him watching Sports Center for the game highlights and a hundred and ten dollars lighter in his wallet.
