10 Weird American Museums

Some of these strange and bizarre museums sound interesting? Great weekend day trip vacation sites.

Are you looking for strange and bizarre places to visit this summer? Well there are plenty of weird museums full of odd and very unusual exhibits waiting for you to come and see.

Here are my top 10 weird American museums

  1. The Museum of Bad Art in Dedham, Massachusetts, is for real. It started out as a joke and now is visited yearly by thousands of people.
  2. Julia C. Bulette Red Light Museum in Virginia City, Nevada is a piece of the Old West history they sure don't teach you in High School History class. Every thing you wanted to know about the ladies of the night and then some.
  3. The Museum of Salt & Pepper Shakers can be found in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and I have never seen so many S&P's in one place ever!
  4. The Snowmobile Museum in Allentown, New Hampshire, opened in 1985 -- "The first and only state-sponsored snowmobile museum in the United States."
  5. The Million Dollar Museum is located near Carlsbad Caverns on Route 7 in White's City, New Mexico. This is a really strange place with one room full of long horns from steer, another full of strange dead animals, then the “alien baby” mummy in a jar and many more weird things.
  6. The International UFO Museum located in Roswell, New Mexico, of course. Need we say more?
  7. The Angel Museum in Beloit, Wisconsin is housed in a church (good place for it) St. Paul's Catholic Church in downtown Beloit. It states they have “the world's largest collection of angels”. Spaghetti angels, bell angels and Oprah Winfrey gave 600 Black Angels to the museum.
  8. The Hair Museum in Independence, Missouri exhibits all kinds of hair
  9. The Hormel SPAM Museum is for real and it is located in Austin, Minnesota, where they still make SPAM
  10. The Idaho Potato Museum can be visited in Blackfoot, Idaho and it claims to have on exhibit the world's largest potato chip. The gift shop has potato cookies, potato ice cream and potato fudge!
