Five Characters You are Likely to Meet in the Workplace

People that you probably work with every day, and some you may want to stay away from if you want to keep your job.

Wherever you work, you are bound to run into one or more of these personalities. You may even find yourself participating in some of the antics.

  1. The Butt Kisser (aka Yes-Man, Suck-Up)

  2. Always looking around for corporate butt to kiss, this character is often confused when more than one supervisor is in the area. The butt kisser is known to take credit for other peoples ideas and hard work. Often this person will just pop up out of nowhere when the boss arrives and will do whatever it takes to get the boss alone, smiling and nodding like a bobble-head, management keeps this person around for entertainment purposes. An appropriate gift for this person is knee pads.

  3. The Gossiper (aka Information Guru)

  4. Ever at the water cooler with all the facts, anytime you need dirt on someone, the gossip knows everything about everybody, and gets very insulted by anyone else who might end up with the first scoop. The only problem with using the gossip's info is the cost. This information guru has the ability to extract data from you without you even realizing it. There are no secrets for this person and the gossip will never promise to keep one.

  5. The Ass-Clown (aka Prankster)

  6. Everything is a joke, practical or otherwise and nothing gets taken seriously by this character. The ass-clown provides good comic relief during the work day. The prankster's favourite dupe is the butt-kisser but in a pinch, anybody will do, nothing is sacred to this person so you must always be on your guard when this person is around.

  7. The Avoider

  8. The avoider spends way more time and energy walking around avoiding jobs than actually doing them. Somehow is able to look busy when there is a supervisor is watching, but manages to disappear when assignments are being handed out. An appropriate gift for the avoider is a cammo suit.

  9. The Complainer (aka Counter)

  10. No matter how well this person has it, the complainer is never happy, and will seek out co-workers in order to share this misery and to get them riled up. This person will spend a lot of time finding things wrong, count how many people violate the rules and how many times they do so. The complainer will work doubly hard to justify the complaints. This person is not very fond of the avoider. There is no appropriate gift for the complainer.
