Have You Seen Foamy the Squirrel in Tech Support?

A humorous look at one squirrel's conversation regarding a misbehaving laptop computer, and the conversation with a third-world country Technical Support representative whose assistance is somewhat useless and inept.

While it is probably inevitable that companies must and will out-source their work overflow to countries outside of the United States and Canada, one does not have to think very long or hard about the difficulties this can present. Disregarding the loss of local jobs, most notably would be the difficulties with language, culture and even time zones. Many companies have outsourced their technical writing, support and customer service operations to nations where the labor is cheaper by comparison. Generally, this is first and foremost most often reason why; to reduce a company's financial overhead.

Outsourcing is defined as subcontracting a process such as product design, manufacturing or support (such as customer service) to a third-party company. The phone companies and polling interests are quite noted for doing this, to reduce their costs.

Generally this outsourcing would be to any country where the wages are drastically cheaper and the workforce was willing to work harder, for less, as this would benefit the main company more any problems that the distance and time zones might create. This became increasingly popular throughout the 1980s and to current time although the trend is starting to suggest that customers are objecting to outsourced labor and support due to local economic concerns, and some companies are beginning to listen.

Especially Computer Support

It is sad, but laughable. In the case of “customer service” or “technical support” this 'outsourcing' is still rampant and increasing. It might be more correct to call this “offshoring” instead of “outsourcing” although in public vernacular the two terms are interchangeable.

I am glad that we can at least laugh at this but if you have ever felt the frustration of dealing with a Third World nation Customer Service representative on the phone then this cute and extremely funny FLASH cartoon is sure to bring a smile to your beleaguered face.
