How to Diagnose Stupidity

Simple check list to determine stupidity.

Albert Einstein determined that Stupidity is Infinite. But do we really know stupidity? Are we mixing it up with uneducated, unsophisticated or brain dead?

Stupidity is not limited to any particular class or caste. It can be found in a laboratory or lavatory. It can reach to the highest level of government or the nearest dumpster. To protect yourself from being infected by Stupidity you must follow these simple steps. Remember, discussing anything with a stupid person is contraindicated because the Stup:

  1. Knows everything

    Stupid people always respond "I know", even when you are explaining the workings of the Warp drive you just invented. As stupid people know everything explanations are pointless.

  2. Mind made up

    Stupid people never change their opinion. If they believe a deadly poison is good for them, no matter the data, they will continue to use it. Trying to reason with them and a stuffed polar bear are equal in futility.

  3. Tried and True

    Stupid people will maintain systems long after proven ineffective or purchase inefficient "state of the art" ones which have no application because another stupid person sold it to them for more money than it is worth.

  4. Which invites the corrollary that;

    Stupid people only listen to stupid people. If you are not as stupid as the person you are talking to he won't listen to you.

  5. Inability to learn

    Normal people learn from their mistakes. Intelligent people learn from the mistakes of others. Stupid people never learn.

  6. Never Wrong

    Stupid people are never wrong. It's the fault of everyone and everything else. If they must fabricate, rearrange, or blame someone who died before they were born, they will do so, as admitting a mistake is psychologically impossible.

  7. Underestimating

    Stupid people think everyone is stupider than they are. With this belief, they seek to fool, trick, confuse, or manipulate others.

No matter how many times they fail or are caught, Item 1 - 5 (above) applies. As soon as you have determined you are talking to a stupid person, stop. Mid sentence, mid word, it doesn't matter. Just stop. Remember, if you reason with a fool it is hard to remember which one is the fool.

Stupidity is a very interesting thing and I believe there are not stupid people but stupid actions. This was a very good article at describing exactly what I believe stupidity is: when people think they know what they don't know. Socrates said he knew nothing and he was pronounced the most wise by the oracle. I believe in our education system if we stopped fussing over imagining intelligence as we do with subjective measures such as IQ testing and standardized testing, and focused more on recognizing stupidity we might make leaps of progress that would show itself with a nation with better mental health. I enjoyed the article thank you.

I believe there really are stupid people. There really are
people who really don't know anything and will defend that
ignorance. Socrates said he knew nothing, and when you start
from that position, you are very likely to learn a great deal.

IQ are very subjective; they work well with a fully inculturated
American who has attended standard High Schools, and lived a
standard life.

They do not work as well with non-Americans or those who are not
inculcated with the entire set of American values, who have not
attended standard High Schools nor lived a standard life.

Further, judging intelligence has to be based on functionality.
Many so-called geniuses can not function in the world. They miss
nuances, they don't understand.

Recent studies seem to suggest there is actually a stupidity
gene which inhibits learning. Those who have it make the
same mistakes over and over.

to quote the great American philosopher Forrest Gump,"stupid is,as stupid does" not sure how inculcated he was, objectively speaking. He may not have had a standard education, possibly not even a sub-standard education from a standard Middle school let alone a sub-par education from a below standard Grammer school.I advocate impartial I.Q. test at birth for all infants. Seperate the stupid and isolate them until they can be disposed of in a way that will provide diversion and amusement for the gifted, like yourself. Good luck with your genetic(or is that generic?) research.

Jimmy, Don't make the article say what it
doesn't.
We are not talking 'gifted' because as I
said; you can find stupid people in the
laboratory; you can find stupid people
holding Ph.ds. Stupidity has nothing to
do with intelligence.

If you'd read the article carefully you'll
see the point, instead of just skimming it
so that it makes the 'sense' you wish it to.
