20 Best Oxymorons

Neat article about oxymorons and examples there of.

What is an oxymoron, you ask? Good question

The term oxymoron basically means somebody has used two words or two phrases in one sentence or statement that seem or appear contradictory. Oxymoron, the word, comes from the Greek word oxy ("pointed") and the word moros ("dull"). You can see the word oxymoron is itself an oxymoron of sorts.

The ludicrous use of English words and phrases can be both ironic and funny sometimes and this apparent contradiction in word usage is many times seen as a paradoxical. Statements with a paradox woven into them have led to some very interesting novels and prophetic conspiracy tales.

Here are 20 of the most used Oxymoron's in the English language:

  • Icy hot
  • Expect the unexpected
  • A Doctor studies many years to establish a practice?
  • A Liberal Conservative
  • Same difference
  • Controlled Chaos

  • Terribly Pleased
  • Plastic Glasses

I think you have confused two phrases in the last oxymoron. You have combined "Keep a stiff upper lip" with "Keep your chin up."
