The "Mystical" World of the Tarot

My view on tarot both as a reader and observer of it.

I have been reading tarot for years now. It first began out of curiosity and then blossomed into a way of life for me. Unlike other tarot readers I do not believe in telephone, email or postal readings. To truly engage with the cards is to hold them. For tarot is a science and our bodies are made up of electricity that can dictate the movement of inanimate things, I believe.

When a receiver comes to me they are normally troubled or wanting the answer to something. Hardly anybody 'wants' a tarot spread. They normally 'need' one. By taking the cards into their hands they are channeling all of their energy and emotions into them and thus how the cards are shuffled and placed depend heavily on the receiver. This is why I believe that 'distant' readings are not possible. How can an accurate reading be achieved if there is no hands on contact with the deck?

There is no magic to reading the cards. Anybody can read them. I tend to use the celtic cross as I find that the most approachable one. There is a guide, should you forget the placing of a card or its meaning in that place. Like all things, it takes practice and over the years you bond with the procedure and the needs of the subject. Sometimes this is mis-indentified as a 'gift' or something on a higher level. It is not. It is familiarity that makes the tarot reader and not some 'gift' that they are born with or some 'higher' individual guiding them.

I never accept payment for tarot readings for what is there to charge for?! The receiver does all of the work! I always remind the receiver that nothing is set in stone and that the layout of the cards is open to interpretation and change. The cards are dictated by the emotions of the receiver at that given time. As we all know, our feelings towards events and people are forever changing, unless it is deep routed feelings that cannot be severed.

Overall the tarot should be seen as a kind of game. Or at least that is how it probably started life. At what stage it put on its divine cloak we can never be quite sure of. The one thing that you can be sure of though is like all things people will try to manipulate its existence. Never pay for a tarot reading, especially a 'distance' one where you are not even present. There is no way that an accurate reading can be achieved in this manner. More often than not the insincere tarot reader will 'fish' for answers from you. Never tell a tarot reader anything. I always suggest that the tarot is learned instead. Why not buy a packet of tarot cards rather than keep paying for readings? It is so much cheaper and the readings will be more vibrant and trustworthy for they are within your own hands.

I could of course be wrong and there may be many tarot readers out there who were born with a gift and who can justify taking money for that gift. I went to a seminar recently and the 'talker' was the first tarot reader who I had ever come across who agreed that the 'cards had to be touched for an accurate reading'. To admit that would be to eliminate any distant readings and there is a small fortune to be made out of 'distant' readings.

I will always love the tarot. I collect them and have an array of card decks including the 'smallest tarot pack in the world' apparently. No matter what their style or size, they will always have a big impact on my life.
