Top 10 Unusual Things to Do with a Mug

Why not take a common household item and do something unusual with it? A mug is the perfect thing to experiment with.

Almost everyone has mugs and I'm sure you do too. Rather than following the norm and just drinking out of it, why don't you try something unusual?

Bake a cake in the microwave with it.

Why should a mug be only for drinks? You can easily stir some cake mix into a mug and bake a tasty cake in only five minutes! There's a guide here if you want to try it out.

Stop a burglary.

Hang around some neighborhood that you figure a robbery could take place. It might take a while, but once you see someone trying to break in to someone's house just run over and hit him or her in the head with the mug! Mugs are pretty sturdy so it shouldn't break, and you'll be a hero.

Go to the beach and make sandcastles with it.

Why not? A mug would work perfectly for the job. Not everyone has a sandcastle mold, but most have mugs so you might as well use them.

Catch bugs with it and put them on a spider web.

Although it may be a bit cruel, it is definitely fun. Spider's are speedy-quick and pounce on the bugs quickly, then pulling them back. Sometimes if they can't just poison it, they run around it wrapping it in their web. It's really cool and a mug would be really easy to catch bugs with.

Make Jell-O and use the cup as a mold.

Probably a bit more common than the rest of the listed, it also wouldn't take much work. Whenever you make Jell-O you need a mold anyways, so you might as well use a mug.

Put a piece of foam into it and glue change to the top of the foam.

To do this would be really funny. You put the mug around the house so people who want to steal some change will end up feeling stupid because they can't get the actual change out of the mug.

Fill it with liquid and run an electric current through it.

A bit of a strange concept but it'd be pretty cool. These people actually found one online. Who doesn't want a current of electricity in their drink, right?

Melt it and make a different mug.

Why not? You'd need a lot of heat, but it'd be fun to do. You'd probably make some abstract-looking mug that you could just pass off as art.

Make it into a speaker for your iPod.

You install a speaker into a mug and connect it to you're iPod. You could probably just buy a speaker, take it apart and put the actual speaker part in the mug. It's pretty pointless, but it'd occupy your time for a while. MoMa has actually made one that looks like this.

Stencil random images onto it.

Stenciling images onto a mug would be fun and creative. You could stencil whatever you want, and really make your mug your own. This person did it and I'm sure they enjoyed the final product.
