His original name is Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin (16 April 1889 - 25 December 1977)
His childhood was not as smooth as most other children of the world. He lost his father at a tender age of 12, and his mother was down with illness. He had only his brother Sydney close to him. The two brothers had undying inclination towards music. At the age of 5, Charlie had the guts to take control of stage where he sang the most popular tune of those days (Jack Jones)
Charlie Chaplin had also undergone the initial struggle in 1910-1912 to enter film world. He signed his debut film with Mack Sennett for the film Making a Living released in 1914. This was a bang on for Charlie!
He was a perfectionist. Until he got his shots perfect, he would not proceed, even if it meant losing time, money and efforts. It is said that Charlie lost lot of money in this process.
Charlie's political interest showed in a few of his films. They depicted the dismal state of workers and support for Soviet Union during World War II. A few also depicted disparaging view of capitalism which invited for trouble from few Nations. He then concentrated on apolitical films.
Charlie had gotten into relationships with many women during his lifetime. He was exiled from USA in 1953 because he refused US citizenship, and settled in Switzerland.
Charlie breathed last on 25th Dec'1977 in his sleep at his Switzerland home, at the age of 88.
His first movie with speech was The Great Dictator. Thus was Charlie Chaplin, the scriptwriter, actor, director and producer, all rolled into one.
