Exploring of the Sea

Since the early ages, sea, ocean, lakes and rivers have been helping people by bringing them food, water, and excitement.

The first boats were just fallen trees, on which aboriginal people sat, and used hands to paddle. It was a very first and primitive type of boat. However, humans didn't want to just float on the surface of the sea. They wanted to go deeper, go inside of the sea. In 1620 a Dutchman named Drebbel built the first submarine ever, the "Drebbel Submarine".Here's a picture of it:

It wasn't as primitive as its ancestors. You can see that it took him a long time to build it.

Still, this wasn't enough. The Drebbel submarine couldn't stay underwater for more than 3 hours. It's all because there wasn't any oxygen supply. That's why on Jan. 21, 1954, the world's first nuclear powered submarine was launched! Here's a picture:

That's a huge progress! But still, not deep enogh. In 1960 the diving submersible Trieste descends to the floor of the Mariana Trench, the deepest known place on earth. The Mariana Trench is a huge 36,200 feet deep crack in the Pacific Ocean. Beat that! From fallen trees, to Trieste and better, the exploration of the sea and the ocean, is a very important part of human life.
