Where Did the Internet Come From?

Actual origin of what we call the Internet.

Origins

Have you heard that “Necessity is the mother of invention.?” Well the internet is no different, but what you have heard may not be the case. I read somewhere that the internet first started as a super-rugged way for government agencies and the like to communicate in the event of a nuclear attack. The Department of Defense did inherit the network after it had grown beyond its intended purpose, but sorry, they didn't invent it. Actually, it was developed over a number of years in the late 60's and early 70's by research scientists (funded by the Government of course) in response to a need to link to computer resources they needed to utilize, but were prevented by distance.

Today the internet has grown to huge proportions, compared to its humble beginnings. In its purest form, it can be compared to a very large library, that can accessed from any point on the globe where there is a computer and internet access.
