| | It is said that there are about two thousand four hundred different kinds of snakes living. Of these, only eight percent are poisonous kinds that either kill or stun their prey with venom or poison. In many poisonous snakes the venom is not poisonous or plentiful enough to be dangerous to man. |

| | Scientists have studied about 2400 varieties of snakes. Of them only about 200 are poisonous. In India only four of around 200 species are found to be poisonous. They are the cobra, krait, saw scale viper and Russell’s viper. |
